Hi,
I have an 88 5.0 that has the coolant going thru the Throttle body.... it seems to have caused soem corrosion and I am not really sure why they did it.... can I bypass the t/b or just plug the 2 coolant nipples ... will it cause any problems? Let me know what you guys think... thanks |

The reason for having coolant run through the EGR is because hot exhaust gases come in through the EGR (exhaust gas return) and the coolant temperatures are much cooler than exhaust gas temperatures. You can cap it off however you will have a warmer intake air charge (less dense), unless of course you've removed your piping for the EGR from the h pipe in which case cap it off.

H-pipe tubing going to the EGR on a 88 5.0?
Doesnt quite work that way. If you want to block the EGR, you have to plug the passage at the cylinder head, or in the intake manifold, or at the valve itself. |

correct mach1.
because the h-pipe tube goes to the smog pump, not to the tb/spacer. i see most guys have it capped, i still run coolant thru mine for now, if it is corroded, mine was too, just replace it with a bigger one? i like my bbk, the finish is nice, my 13 yr old stock tb/spacer was corroded.
