5.8 swap
Hi, I have a 95 V6 Auto. The car has 50K miles on it, and I also have a 94 F250 XLT Manual. The F250 is gettin pretty beat up (tipped over once, drove over a boulder, and much more abuse), but the engine seems to be in good shape still, it has 140K miles on it. I want to swap the engine from it, into my Mustang whenever the truck goes to hell, or if I just decide its time.
Aside of a bell houseing, and springs. What else would really be required to put the engine in my car? Would I have to knock back the firewall? Isnt this the same engine as the 95 cobra? Thanks for any help, when I bought the V6 it was all I could afford to get a loan for, but after reading about the small ammount of preformance I can get from modding it heavly. I feel my money would be better spent on putting in a big V8. |
The 95 Cobra used the 5.0L just like the GT did (with some changes of course). The 1995 Cobra R did use a 351. A 351 will fit in your car.
It will be more work than if you were changing from a 302, but you should still be OK. I would suspect that if you used the trucks long block, you'd need to look at the following: Larger Air filter housing (?) New MAF ThrottleBody Upper intake Accessories and brackets Radiator (?) A new computer and wiring harnesses. Oil Pan Headers flywheel, and othe drive train items ? I would also upgrade your rear axle to an 8.8" (V6 is 7.5") I am probably missing a bunch of stuff. With out the 302 to rob of parts you may need more stuff. Check out this months 5.0 Mustang Mag, it has the swap in it. |
here is a webpage I found a while back, I dont know if all the parts would be identical but its a good start.
