5 liter and 2500 bucks to play with what would you do
Suppose you had a stock 87-92 5 liter, 5-speed. What mods would you do if you had 2500 bucks to spend.....no power adders please.

The best bang for the buck is to change the gears. They are relatively inexpensive and you notice an instant change in performance. After that, definately work on the induction and cam.

AFR 185's 1,200
Explorer intake 200 Headers 200 gears 159 X-pipe 200 Tri-ax shifter 150 ________________ 2,009.00 Since I am under budget I might as well by some Mickey Thompson ET streets 330.00 All of this on a speed density Notch back should be good for high 12's. Later,

theres no way I would ever choke down an awesome set of heads like the AFR's with an explorer intake (or GT40/cobra). Especially the 185's. I wouldnt go with anything less than a edelbrock RPM or holley intake with those heads. I know its a money issue here, but you gotta match the combo well.

2500 bucks hmmmm
well since this is a dream list here goes:
ported stock heads with bigger valves(1.90/1.60) 5-600 dollars Cobra intake with 65mm throttle body 410 for intake 170 for throttle body E303 or B303 or any alphabet cam for 170 dollars 1.6 bolt down rockers 240 dollarsMac shorty headers 169 Off road h-pipe 125 shifter 160 bucks 3.73 gears 170 install 250 equals 2464 not including taxes and you have 36 dollars left over. Or you could just buy a set of GT40P heads assembled from Summit for 550 dollars and add 31 dollars to the price of the headers and you still inder the 2500 dollars you want to spend. Have at it.

Dark 5.0 185's won't even work with the stock pistons.
I've decided to do shortie headers, off-road h-pipe, gears, shifter, Steada #18 cam, 76MM C&L mass-air, and a 65 or 70mm TB. What I haven't decided on are the heads and intake. It down to a set of ported GT-40P's(thanks Eric) with a Cobra intake or a set of ported TFS twisted wedge heads(thanks again Eric) and a Edelbrock performer intake or TFS intake. I know the TFS heads will make more power....but they'll also cost a good bit more money. What do you think the differences in 1/4 mile times would be? BTW, if you rocket scientists haven't figured it out yet, I'm getting a 5.0 in the near future(this winter)

Add more money
well since you are going to get either a TFS or Eddy intake you better add in the price of a EGR spacer and they go for 49-67 dollars depending on where you buy it from.
The Cobra does not need an EGR spacer like the rest do,it is your decisions. Oh by the way I thought you asking about a Camaro on a Mustang chat board,it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out you are thinking about a Mustang.

I've decided I'm gonna go with the ported GT-40P's. With the 500 bucks I saved I can buy other speed parts.
The specs on the Steada cam are...... .480 lift 220/226 duration at .050 112 LSA

they work
They will work you just have to notch the pistons with stock pistons and AFR 185's.
Burner that is just my way of messing with you,I knew you meant no offense, and I did not mean to come off like a smart-alic. 185's on a stock 302???? Could work long as you have a good intake and cam to support them. GT40P is not a bad investment at all. Good Luck

Dark 5.0 I would have to have the pistons fly cut...which is more money I don't have. Not to mention I'd have to drop about 550 bucks on a intake to match the head's flow.
I think I've decied to go with the TFS #1 cam with the porte heads... .498/.510 lift 221/225 duration at .050 LSA 112

if you do change your mind, and go back to the steeda cam, then you'll definately want a set of 1.7's to get that lift up to 0.510 instead of .480

Compared to your 4 banger a stock 5.0 will be a blast. Later,

I would buy P heads $500.
Mill them as much as possible, you can get about 10-10.5:1 compression. Edelbrock performer intake, 375-400 used E-303 cam $100 used shorty headers $80 used off-road H pipe $75 used 65mm TB/EGR $250 73-75mm Maf ~$200 ADJ FRP $60 pulleys $80 3.73 gears $500 gaskets $100 shifter $170 Total right about $2500. buy some tires when u have a chance later, you'll have fun burning the **** out of the ones you have. And you'll have a car with a killer powerband a torque that should run 12's easy. Skyler
