5 speed problems and ????'s
This is the problem I am having. I have an 89 LX 5.0 hatch that was originally a 5 speed and I took the 5 speed out of my 92 LX 5.0 coupe and installed it the other day. I hooked all the wires back up and reinstalled everything the same as when I took it out and now the car won't start unless you jump the starter solenoid. I double checked the wire hookups on the trans and all the connections and they all seem to be correct. Also the reverse lights are on all the time now whether it is in reverse, neutral, or any other gear. The only other thing I changed when I did the transmission is that a friend of mine was having problems with his blower car and we thought it was his computer and it was an automatic computer but his car didn't run any different afterward so I wouldn't think that would be it but who knows. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your solenoid or starter might be bad. The light thing sounds like an electrical problem, I wouldn't think a tranny swap would change that. |

I don't know exactly how to fix it but I do know that there is a sensor in the tranny that turns the lights on and off when it is in reverse. It is the one on the side (drivers side) of the tranny I don't think you can interchange those plugs but if it's just reverse lights that are messed up I would think it has something to do with this. I bet PKRWUD knows exactly which color wires go where, I think I read a post less than a week ago that had the colored wires for each sensor, try a search As for not starting, which clutch did you use, possibly it is more/less worn than before and you are not pushing the pedel far enough to engage the clutch safety switch Might be the computer but I wouldn't think so if it does start when you jump the solenoid |
it soulds like it is the sensor thats on the tranny is not pulged in make sure they all are I lost mine so I hot wired mine... hehe
