![]() Those front wheel guys wouldn't know what to do with that kind of power, hehe The motor is already about 430+ at flywheel with a Tremec TKO behind it. I will also be upgrading to 31 or 33 spline in the rear. |

![]() I think that's pushing it even with a main cap girdle. We've all heard stories of guys running 600rwhp on stock blocks but that's unlikely. I'd say you'll be ok as long as you don't beat the hell out of it.

![]() The factory rates the production 5.0 litre block at 550hp max. I cannot remeber if they listed a maximum RPM also. IMO this is probably the upper limit on a naturally aspirated combo. Maybe even a blower engine, but at this level, I speculate that if the SC'd engine has a tendancy to detonate/knock it would hammer the block like a big hit of nitrous (with a blower). As for nitrous. NOS hit a stock 5.0 with a 300 shot when they first developed their wet plate system and it blew out the main webbing. So that leaves out nitrous in the 550 region.
BTW, the last production 5.0 rolled off of the assembly line ![]() Anybody wanto to go into the casting business ![]() |

![]() FRPP just released the Sportsman 302 block, still lots cheaper than an R302 but not cheap by any means. Back to the topic, factory rates stock 302 blocks to 450 hp, not 550. Anything over 500 is PUSHING it bigtime, no matter what power adder. 2 bolt mains and relatively small main webbing aren't good for longetivity. If you keep the RPM's down and drive reasonably I could foresee it lasting quite a while, but it'd be on the edge.

![]() Check an SVO catalog, my last copy was a 99 cat and it listed the production block as having a max hp potential of 550, I know about the sportsman block too, From what I understand it's just as hard to get hold of.
In any event, I think another manufacturer should pick up the ball and go with it. I would like to see World Products (they do the merlin stuff don't they?) do a block just like the big and little M stuff. They've got brand X-stuff (blocks) in both Jeg's and Summit I believe. Also think they should go for some added parts commonality with the 351 (bolts, bearings, timing covvers, oil pans, ect), dunno what could fit and what wouldn't but I'm not all that groovy on using a 351 (both from a size and weight standpoint, unless I want something bigger than 350 cid, even then on a siamese bore block like the R302. a 363 cid engine is possible (4.125 x 3.40). Beyond NASCRAP, I don't think Ford has much more use for the windsor motors. I'm sure they would jump for joy if the collective Ford faithful s-canned thier windsor stuff and fell for the mod motors? |

![]() BTW, I would go for a 1,000 dollar block if it could support in the area of 750-1,000 hp and came with 4-bolt mains on all 5 caps as well as full water-jackets, and a few other features that would make it tough. Especially if all I had to do would be to torqueplate hone the cylinders to final size. Basic block work is gonna cost you in the 500 dollar range. Thanks to Ford's ever so excellent quality controls on the windsor engines, A new Summit 302 and block prep would put you at the 800 dollar level and for an engine that would only be good for 450-550 hp. Wouldn't a block capable of 1,000 hp be worth another 2-300 dollars?
