Question 85 5 lug conversion

im looking to convert to 5 lug in my 85 stang. The conversion kits seem to be only for 87 and up. I remember reading something about different control arms, does anybody body know what i can do or where to find the differences in the front end? Thanks in advance.

I am currently doing the same conversion on my '85. There are hardly any differences. I am using the parts from a '95 stang. The main difference is spindles and the front struts. The pre '87 spindles are thicker in the area where they mount to the strut. Many manufactures of struts include shims so that their struts can be used on all year stangs. You can get around this by using washers. If you need any more info just email me.

i wasnt able to find anything of changing the fronts but i did find out you can swap a 94-up rear axle and they all came with disks. should be alot easier that the conversion kit. Its getting a little to dangerous, i feel i have to get on the brakes too hard to make them stop.

If you are feeling like you need to get on the brakes hard you may want to consider changing your master cylinder over to a 1 inch bore. This will give you more brake pressure. I have installed this with a wilwood brake proporitioning valve and it will stop on a heart beat. Any q's email me as I don't get on very often. Good Luck!!

I used the '95 master cylinder with an adjustable prop valve and have no problems either. I used all the parts from a '95 stang. Go to this site

Are you looking to upgrade from 10 to 11 inch brakes?

If you wanna keep the 10" rotors, just go to a ranger 5-lug rotor, 11" rotors can be had from a Lincoln Mark VII, The hub on the Lincoln rotor is about 1/4" thicker than the Mustang's hub.
