87 GT w/t-tops
I am wondering if it is a rare thing to have a 87 GT with t-tops, because I myself have never seen any 87-93 Mustangs with this option. Is it something to hang onto?

As far as I know, that was the last year they made T-tops a factory option.
I don't know how many were made, but since it was probably the only year of the "cat-eye" models to have T-tops, I would think it was pretty rare. Of course not like a Shelby or anything, but rare enough I suppose... ------------------ Elisha (Mustangbelle) 1994 GT: Cartech intake,4.10s, full exhaust, and pulleys. I have a 87LX with t-tops,they made them in 88 also, just the first two weeks of production, there is a small dent behind the tops from jamming gears. I love the car, bought it new and have raced it since it had temp tags.

I have a mustang buyer's guide book and it says that they were made in decent numbers up to '88 and in '89 they started to phase them out, so it's rarer to get an '89 t-top. hey rich.....that dent comment is funny because i noticed that after i got the car mine got those dents also (i have a sunroof).

There were no T-Top models made for the 1988 or later model years.
The 1988 T-top models were carry overs from 1987 models. Total production was around 2000. About 1200 sold in 1987, 800 in 1988. Later, Unit 5302 |

I am from wisconsin and I've asked the same question about the T-tops being rare, since I have only seen 2 before in my life. I have a 88 GT with T-tops but I havent looked close enough to notice any dents. Just thought I would let you know that your not the only ones with the T-tops.
p.s- Does any of your T-tops leak?? Mine leak like a son of a b%&ch |

Joe_mama71, that's pretty much why nobody bought the T-top cars back in the day, and a big reason Ford discontinued them.
The weatherstripping right now is about $300 per side (ouch) so replacing it is a chore on the checkbook. I've heard welding in subframe connectors to the T-top cars greatly reduced the squeeks, leaks, and rattles, if everything is still straight and square. My buddy has an 87GT Hatch with T-tops. It's like a riding in a mobile rain forest, hehehe! |

Hey I here you guys all the way on the leaks with t-tops. Just Today I went to the local auto value and they quoted me $35 per side for weather stripping. Thanks for all the info.

I have a mustang 83, but with the cat-eye front end with T-Tops. Very nice car. It does squeek a little but much better when you just take the t-tops off. Leaks a little by the windows. I'm thinking of redoing the weather stripping this winter along with the interior. Anyone know any good sites on the net to buy aftermarket seats and intereior in general?

Re: 87 GT w/t-tops
Worked dealerships when those T-Tops were new. Couldn't get them to stop leaking, when they were new, here in Florida. I understand that is why they dropped the option.
