'87 mustang engines?

I have a stock '87 mustang lx (4 banger).... can anyone tell me size engines i can fit in here with the stock 5 speed manual trany? i need a big engine that will bolt right up to the stock trany.

I am not sure what will bolt directly up to it, but any larger engine you put in that car will probably destroy your stock 4 cylinder tranny and/or rear end real quick.

isn't the trany the same 5speed that came with the 87 5.0 lx? if so it should hold up.

No. The 302 came with a t-5 that is more adapt to handling handling the extra torque and power that a 5.0 makes. I am not sure the exact differences, but they are different. Search the forums for 4 cylinder to V8 swap and I am sure you will find a ton of info.

I think the input shafts are different from a 4 cyl. to an 8 cyl. They can be made to bolt up by changing the shaft, but then you still have a weak 4 cyl tranny:( .

Don't bother

a 4 cylinder tranny will never live peacefully behind a 302,spend the extra cash and get the V8 T5 tranny.
