Late Model Exployer Upper Intake
Late model Exployer Upper Intake. I have a Exployer upper . Everything is new. I had the engine running last night. (operating temp) Took the upper off, retorqued lower, set valve lash, reinstalled upper. When torqueing the Upper from, center, then across the small eye at the front passagers side broke! IS THERE A TORQUE PATTEREN for the Explorer Upper Late Model?? Its was torqued too 23ft.lbs. I also have a 1/2in. spacer. (lower to upper, FMS) I had the intake welded a few hours ago but I'm affraid to install it. Feed back please.

I just checked the Uppers mating surface (upper to lower) with a Flat edge. It is way out it will need to be plained before I install it. It's way low at the two end ears(bolt holes) I think it way be from the welding. Does anyone Know the torque patteren for the Late model Explorer Upper No EGR.

The torque sequence shoould be fairly standard. Start at the center and work your way to the edges in a criss-cross or circular pattern. Even though it is a relatively light torque #, it wouldn't hurt to torque it down in two steps. Make sure the bolts are clean, and use a small amount of oil or never-sieze to make sure you are getting the proper torque.

My EXPLORER upper broke in the same place as well. The torque sequence wouldnt have really made much of a difference, as I've seen alot of them break.
Just have it welded and make sure the mating surface is flat, and you'll be ok. If welded properly, it will be stronger than before and you can just torque it down like normal
