Default Uh Ho! Emissions Testing On Wed. Anyone Have Any Secrets To Passing Easier?

I Have To Put The Stock H-Pipe On Tomorrow Night, And I Have None Of The Other Smog Stuff On My Car, So I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Any Little Tricks Or Tips That May Help.

Someone Told Me To Put Steel Wool In The Exhaust(I Think This One Is B.S.), And I Also Herd I Can Un Plug An Injector And Un Do The Plug Wire? Also, Does Methyl Hydrate, And 94 Octane Also Help?

Thanks For Any Help, And Ill Update Yall To Let You Know How It Goes.

P.S., They Dont Check Underhood, Just Look For Cats.

I am not familiar with the laws where you live, but if there is a visual inspection, you're going to need to reinstall all the emission pieces you removed. If it just needs to pass the sniffer test, the best you can do is to:

1) Put the stock H-pipe back on.
2) Set the timing at 10 degrees.
3) Tune it up (either with new parts, or clean up the old ones).
4) Set the fuel pressure to 38 psi (w/ the vac disconnected and plugged).
5) Get the engine as hot as you can, without overheating, just prior to the test.

Good luck!

Take care,
~Chris

Chris, I Dont Understand what you mean by "4) Set the fuel pressure to 38 psi (w/ the vac disconnected and plugged)."

I Dont Have An Adjustable Puel Pressure Regulator, OrAn FP Guage.

Also, What Stock Parts Should I Clean Up? Thanks.

Oh, Have You Herd If Methyl Hydrate In THe Tank Works?

Default Emissions

Forget steel wool in the exhaust, unplugging injectors and plug wires and 94 octane gas.

Go through PKRWUD's checklist and also be sure your air filter is clean. Use the lowest octane gas you can (87).

With the cats re-connected, that should do it but try to go on an off-time. Sitting in line sucks.

I usually take the 'Stang for a good hard WOT thru-the-gears run just before I go to emissions to heat up the engine, clean everything off and enjoy myself in the process. Highly recommended.

the methol hydrate thing works but i have'nt used it. my old boss used to do that he says it works. methol hydrate will burn pretty clean. he would go in with 1/8 of a tank of fuel mixed with a couple of liters of fuel. but as soon as he was done the test he would fill the tank up. i dunno about this technique but it should work. years ago we used to run a junky dodge d-50 little pickup on methol hydrate and that thing started to back fire really loud after a while (with a straight pipe none the less).

Don't know about the methol hydrate.

Don't worry about #4 if you don't have an adjustable regulator.

Clean and regap the plugs, and clean the contact points inside the distributor cap, and the rotor tip. Make sure the plug wires are separated from each other, and are firmly on the plugs.

I'd spend at least a half hour driving around on your way to get it tested. The hotter your exhaust, the better the cats work.

Take care,
~Chris

Around where i live all you have to do is slip the attendant $40 and they will pass pretty much anything that isnt spewing out black smoke or buring 90% oil. But i would advise you to know if the shop will do that kinda thing or not... some will actauly get teh police after you. but if you know people who have done that at a shop with a certain attendant, bring them along and do the same. they wont refuse a bribe from you if another person they accepted a bribe from is standing right beside you.

That used to be the way it was done here. I used to get my Chevelle smogged by having the guy enter my info, and then driving his mid 70's Dodge on the rack, and testing it. But now that's a lot harder. All the smog machines in the state are tied into a network that is monitored, and if similar readings are taken repeatedly (like having a specific car test for others), they are monitored. They also have frequent surveillance of shops with unusually high pass rates. Any shop found BSing a smog certificate get's fined $50k+, and the tech loses his license and get's a huge fine as well. There are still places that do it, but they are very hush-hush, and hard to find.

Take care,
~Chris

Not any tips, only a good luck passing. =) I'm sure glad I don't have to be tested. My car will kill anyone standing withing 10 feet of the back of it. I need to get the exhaust welded though.

Also change the oil & filter when you do the tune up. I've heard that helps a lot.

Unplugging an injector absolutely works. On my car I set the base to about 7, lowered the fp as low as it would go, ran 87 octane gas, pulled one fuel injector, and got the cats as hot as I could (I did all the adjustments in the parking lot before getting in line). The blower whine and exhaust was shaking the entire dmv garage and people were looking at me like I was nuts for trying to bring it through. They hooked it up the sniffer and two of the readings came up zero...They didnt know what hit them Pulling an injector definitely helped. You just have to pull one that they won't see.

I read about this one, Where your tailpipes go over your axle, drill a hole on the top of the tail pipe at the highest point. It's after the mufflers so it won't sound like an exhaust leak and enough of the gasses escape to make just about anything pass.

Also the 94 octane thing, if you get Mohak or Husky gas it will help because the ethanol blend makes it burn really clean. I've talked to people who failed on 87 octane from HC content and went back with a tank of th 94 octane blend and passed with flying colors!

My way to pass is to keep my car insured under my Kamloops address, saves me about $400 on insurance as well.

Angry screw them

sorry, i have an attitude right now...guess its harmones........ I think they have a lot better ways about worrying about emissions and pollution...I prolly should have read the thread b4 posting, ,but I think its bullshit.....
they are worried about a few cars w/out cats and crank the crap out of the plants around here that they do?????????
Thants just wrong, I think..............Take it to the chemical plants........... we are harmless compared to that .
