90' Mustang
Hey everyone, I am new here and to the Mustang scene. I am an old chevy guy from H.S but have been out of hot rodding for about 10 years. I found a 1990 Mustang GT 5.0 convertible today I am thinking about buying. I wanted to get some opinions on what others thought.
The interior is extremely rough and will heve to be replaced. The engine seems to run ok but does not seem to have alot of power. It drives ok, doesn't pull to either side. Brakes feel good. The paint looks rough but the body seems ok. No major dents or dings. I did not see the convertible top cus it was down. It has a broken hinge pin so it couldn't be raised very easy. they claim the top is in good condition. The trans was an a.o.d. but I would probably scrap that anyway in favor of a 5 speed (how difficult would this be?). It will also need new rims and tires. The previous owner spun it out when she was drunk and busted the rim on a curb. I am looking for something to buid up for the track. This would not be a daily driver. The asking price on this is $1600. Should I jump on this deal or pass it up? |
How many miles on the car - did you run a compresion check on motor?
You say you're looking for a track car - you might want to consider a hardtop such as LX or notchback. |
I wouldn't give $ 1,600 for it the way it sounds... You can find a better track car like a coupe or H/B for that kind of money that you can spend more on the motor, and less on the rest of the car.
IMHO, keep looking. JD |
that sounds like a 500 dollar car to me... it runs but everythign else is wasted... it's a station car... that's fine if that's what you wanna do.. but a drag car would be better made of an LX notch.. the lightest of the mustangs.

Thanks. After reading this and several others like it, I have decided to keep looking. I was really looking for an old Camaro or Firebird but all my buddys are trying to talk me into a mustang. This one seemed to be the best deal I have found around so far. I am not ruling out a Mustang but I am gonna keep looking for something like ya'll suggested.
Thanks for the help. |
if you buy a vert, always request to first inspect it, and of course
make sure it works. |
