The stock cam and 1.7 rr are about the best combination you can get for a turbo application, if your still thinking about going that direction. That combo is good for mid 10's in the 1/4. I can't help with the cobra cam, sorry. I just thought you might want to know that before making the change and then possibly having to change again later.

Ok thanks, but it will take me a couple of months to save for the turbo.

I need to be as fast as possible in late february.

I hate looking at the back of my brothers camaro.

I understand.

DO NOT BUY THE COBRA CAM. It is worse than your factory cam. Stay away from the Cobra Cam's and Computers. They are also designed to be used w/ the 1.7 rockers.

NO GOOD.

what exactly is a "cobra cam"I thought the cobras had the same cam as the GT's, just the 1.7 rockers, and the gt40 heads and intake being the main differences?

Thanks for the help...Guess I wont be buying that

Mustangbelle306 01-24-2002 05:23 PM

Nah, if I remember correctly one of my loser friends was bragging about how his 95 Cobra was sooooooooo much better than my GT because he had a "custom Cobra (read:stock Cobra)camshaft"...he emailed the specs and they WERE different than a stock GT cam but I don't have them anymore ;(

I just think its a little odd that you would delve that deep into the engine to replace your stock cam with one that is not much different..at least put even an alphabet cam if you feel that you must swap.

BTW, since you had the block machined...why didn't you do the cam swap then

I wasnt worried about it at the time I was just getting the car to run right but since then I caught the Horsepower bug:D

My chilton shop manual say that it have 0.4797 of lift or 0.2822 of lobe lift but they don't talk about the duration or lsa.

The Cobra cam bites.

.479/.479
270*/270*
209*/209*@.500

That should be with 1.7's by the way. I think the Cobra cam has a little more LSA than the stock cam as well.

So...

.451/.451 with 1.6's.

So the information I have would point to the HO cam and the Cobra cam being real close in performance. I've heard the Cobra cam is a little less aggressive though.

Mach 1 01-25-2002 02:05 PM
