Post best cam for stock motor aod mustang??

my buddy has a 89 aod mustang, he wants to put a cam it the car and wants to know which would run best without him having to buy a stall converter.

With stock heads stock intake and pretty much everything else stock the stock cam is really not a bad cam. If he was to go through the trouble of changing cams it really wouldn't do much for him right now. The stock package is a really well matched combo.

one well respected Mustang shop recommends
the smallest Crower hydr roller cam.
It's only a little longer duration but
a bunch more lift and is described as
very torquey and good with an aod.

PS - HOWEVER I've read of lots of Mustangs
that kept the stock cam and upgraded
the restrictive head/intake/headers and
were surprisingly quick. Course, that IS
more $. "Cheap" upgrades there would be
the Explorer intakes (about same as the
Cobra) and Explorer P heads (need special headers)which both can be had thru ads in Mustang/ford mags quite reasonably.

The stock one is best.
You would gain a little lift w/ some 1.7's though.

Thumbs up

Tell your buddy to skip the cam and buy a 3.73:1 gearset! Don't bother with the cam yet!

from everything i've read, the stock mustang cams are pretty good... without changin the heads, intake and exhaust, a cam is'nt much help...

best bang for the buck, rear end gears (3:73's or 4:10's)...

look at the articles on this board, one of them gives performance stuff that is free or very cheap, and adds extra hp...

------------------
Black,84 GT,ground effects, shorty headers, 'open' dual exh.,302 HO(no pollution control crap),T5,89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock 2122 cam,600 Holley, high volume oil pump...

gears (4:10's) on their way!!!!
