Adjusting Lashing on RR's

I just installed studded 1.6RR and I need to adjust the lashing on them. In detail, explain how to do it..... Thanks.

I think PKRWUD, explained in great detail on a past thread. I have the whole thing saved on my home PC. If you do a search you'll find it though....

1. Make sure that the lifter is riding on the heal of the cam
2. Hand tighten the the rocker down while turning the pushrod back and forth until the pushrod won't turn.
3. give the rocker nut 1/2 turn then lock it down. (sets the preload.)

Wads couldn't have said it any better :)

As far as your rockers, try it this way:

1) Install all 16, and snug down the nuts by hand.

2) Rotate the engine until the balancer reads TDC on the compression stroke.

3) Check the rotor in the distributor, and verify that it is pointing at the #1 wire on the cap. If it's not, rotate the engine 360 degrees.

4) With a 1/4" drive ratchet, tighten the following rockers until you can no longer rotate the pushrod:
Cylinder #1 intake and exhaust,
Cylinder #3 exhaust,
Cylinder #4 intake,
Cylinder #7 exhaust,
Cylinder #8 intake.

5) Now tighten each of those 3/4 of a turn.

6) Rotate the engine 360 degrees, so the balancer reads TDC again.

7) With a 1/4" ratchet, tighten these rockers (again, to zero lash):
Cylinder #3 intake,
Cylinder #2 exhaust,
Cylinder #7 intake,
Cylinder #6 exhaust.

8) Now tighten each of those 3/4 of a turn.

9) Rotate the engine 90 degrees, and with the ratchet, tighten to zero lash on these rockers:
Cylinder #2 intake
Cylinder #4 exhaust
Cylinder #5 intake and exhaust
Cylinder #6 intake
Cylinder #8 exhaust

10) Now tighten each of those 3/4 of a turn.

Take care,
~Chris

I'd have to throw in this comment on the methods given above. To find the point of zero lash, spin the pushrod between your thumb and forefinger while slowly tightening the polylock. When you feel the first bit of drag on the spinning pushrod, stop tightening the polylock. This is the point of zero lash. Then set your desired preload from there, i.e. 1/2 turn, 3/4 turn or whatever you like to run. Ford recommends something like 0.040" to 0.060". On a 3/8-16UNC stud, one full turn is about 0.063". Some like to run it looser, some tighter. It all depends on how confident you are in your lifters and spring pressures.

To say "tighten until you can no longer rotate the pushrod" is wrong since that would imply that you've completely collasped the lifter and loaded the pushrod in compression.

Good point. I will reword it for everyone. I wrote that thinking that those involved understood what I meant, but you are absolutely correct. My bad for assuming!

Take care,
