Adjustment nut on spindle - what ft/lbs?
Hey guys. I'm wrapping up my front brake project and am curious as to how much I should torque down on the adjustment nut on the end of the spindle. The Chilton's manual says to spin the wheel backwards while tighting the nut to 17-25 ft/lbs and then back off the nut by 1/2 turn and then retighten to some low amount of in/lbs rating. This seems really weird to me.
If I tighten the nut to 25, the wheel definitely doesn't spin as freely as it should, so I just backed if of a smidgin (maybe 1/4 turn) and the wheel spins nicely, but there is no play in the wheel (back and forth). Is this the proper way to do it? I can't believe that this nut is the only thing holding the wheel on!
Thanks in advance for the replies.
