Default whats wrong with my car

i have a 94 cobra and lately it has been running rough. at idle the rpms seem to surge and be rough. sometimes it wants to die if i dont give it gas. when driving their is power loss and the exhaust sounds different. when i get around 4000 rpms it wont rev any higher and sounds like it hits a rev limiter and backfires. i cleaned the spark plugs, air filter and mass air sensor and replaced the fuel filter. could it be timing or what.im clueless

replace the mass air sensor, when i bought my 95gt it had a bad mass air
symptoms:
dog shi* slow
wouldnt rev past 4000rpms
surging idle
would die if i didnt give it gas

i still had my 89lx when i bought my 95gt, i just pulled the sensor out of the 89 and plugged it into the 95, and waaaammmm

IT WAS LIKE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAR

i guarantee thats the prob.

Before I'd replace anything (I too had problems with my MAF), I'd just check all the basic stuff first. IAT, TPS, EGR, Codes, coolant temp sensor, etc. Then replace the MAF. Although like I said, I had similar problems and had to replace both the MAF and coolant temp sensor.

true.....my maf didnt throw any codes, i would check coil...ect.ect.ect. there is a possibility that it could be something else, so check the obvious first. coil, tps, iac...ect....ect....ect

Mine didn't show any codes too. My coolant temp sensor was out of range (don't ask me why there was no code for that...) I changed it, then I got several MAF codes, and the car REALLY started to act-up (To the point it would no longer run). Changed the crappy Stock MAF, and no problems!
