Adjusting Length of high idle on Carb 5.0
How do you adjust the length/duration of high idle on a 5.0 Carb stock. It is an 83'. Mine stays on high idle longer than I want it too. My carb doesn't allow me to adjust the high idle speed since it is stock. Is there a way to take out the high idle all together. I would prefer my car to start up and idle at its given warm rpm idle. Thanks.

Assuming that its the factory Holley, their is ascrew for adjustment it is just hard to get to. you need a short small screwdriver and come in from the front sideat about 4oclock if looking at it from the side. You can take the whole chock assembly off, you just need to block the vacuum port on the side. However you may have problems when the cold weather come back or you could get a manual assembly from Holley to replace it. Go to Holley.com and there is all the info you need to help you

Is that for the length of the high idle or what idle speed it is set too?

you can adjust the high idle/choke...if it hasnt been done before.. cut a notch in the rivets that hold the choke on, cant remember if they screw in... you might have to drill them..then replace them with normal screws..
as for the idle speed.. there is a screw underneath the choke that adjusts the speed...

I do believe Dark Knight is right, the screws are kind of headless and you take a hacksaw blade and cut a slot in them, then you loosen them and back off on the spring tension(the round housing) and that will decrease your time

You guys weren't kidding. The fast idle rpm screw is almost impossible to get anything on it. I have tried small flat head screwdrivers and sockets. Do you turn it CW for less idle? Any tips would be appreciated.

it's probably easier to just unbolt the carb..
counter clockwise will slow the high idle down... you DO have the wire hooked to the choke, right?

Oh yeah. I got the wire hooked up. I finally got it. I have dropped it down to about 1200 or so. Does that sound like a good fast idle.
