Aftermarket Differential?
Yesterday i was in an near-major accident on the freeway. There was a fender on the road (fast lane) which i swerved around, avoiding to hit it. When turning back into the lane is was on, I lost control of my '93 GT and fish tailed 180 degree across 4 lanes of freeway and ended up on the emergency lane along the slow lane.
If my Mustang had an aftermarket differential such as an Auburn, among others, would i have still lost control? I swerved left and then after passing the debris, i turned back into the lane i was on and that's when i lost it. |

Re: Aftermarket Differential?
I say yea you would have lost control worse, unless you have some kind of tcs.
But your trak-lok diff probaly handled it better than any locker or spool since it was able to lock and unlock as you were fishtailing as you shift the load on the axles, but it can only do so much. a dangerous situation, glad your alright and the car too, i did what you explained, but trying to drive in the rain, on e.t. streets, i'll never do that again.

Re: Aftermarket Differential?
Yeah, add my 2nd.
I think a good locker would have made things ALOT worse. Their built to go in a straight line with "some" streetability, not fishtailing roundy round white knuckle antics on a freeway. Glad you're OK dude! The Stang made it through as well. That's a BONUS!

Re: Aftermarket Differential?
I agree with everyone else. If you do put in a limited slip or a locker, don't nail it going around a corner even on dry pavement. Man was I surprised the first time I did that (can we say 360?) LOL.
