Aftermarket shifters Hurst vs the rest

Trying to decide which after market shifter to buy. will they help with the "mush" i feel in downshifting from 4th to 3rd? Trannie and current shifter are stock; 1990 5.0 LX. Also, someone told me there is no linkages with the new ones. Just basically plugs into the old slot. (except for reverse linkage) So does a new shifter just basically shorten the throw and not beef up the mechanics? (4 to 3 is week!)

Personally I love my pro 5.0 shifter. I broke my t-5 and am now putting in a tremec TKO and i ordered a pro 5.0 for the tremec without even using the shifter that came with it. If you power shift it, the bolt stops would be a big plus on any aftermarket shifter. Shifting into third is no problem either. Whatever shifter you decide to get, i would try to make sure it has bolt stops to prevent breaking the shift forks.

I have a Hurst and wouldn't recommend it to anyone - although it's much better than stock. I plan on going w/ a Pro 5.0 or B&M Ripper in the near future.

I had a Hurst in my car when i got it, it wasn't anywhere near as tight as the tri-ax i bought. And the tri ax had a much shorter throw than the Hurst. I can't stand to drive a stang without the tri ax now.

I like the Pro5.0 Shifter. Just get either the Tri-Ax or the Pro 5.0. You can't go wrong with either.

I've had a Hurst Billet plus for about a year and it's just fine. As far as installation goes, it's a piece of cake with any top loader. The hardest part of the whole deal is removing those *&%$$ little bolts that hold the inner boot down.

I would buy a Pro 5.0 again, I used to have the old Hurst shifter.
