I am very very confused, i have been told that in E7TE the "E" equals "8" as in 1980 and the 7 next to it makes it 1987, so far this idea was making sense to me until i started taking apart what i thought was a 1985 H.O. 5.0, now that it is apart i have checked the block, pistons, heads and crank, all of which have E7 codes, does this mean i have an 87 block with 85 carb and accessories, or did the 85's come with e7te parts? I need help so that i can get the right parts to put it all back together now, thanks for any help

Please.... does anyone know anything about this, because i need to get some new rings soon and it depends what type of pistons i have, i know mine say E7ZE CA does anyone know if these are what came in 87-93 mustangs because i sure hope they are from 87 and newer because that will save me $140 over the 85 rings

The 1987+ pistons are forged with valve reliefs (not flat top). I don't know about the 1985, but the 1986 had flat tops and were hypereutic.

mine say that they are TRW's and do have 4 valve reliefs

if they are trw pistons i believe they are forged then

so that then means they are from 87 and newer? and then will have the two 1.5mm and one 4mm rings?

It looks to me like someone put a long block from an '87-up in your '85 and re-used the '85s intake and carb. That is a good thing. The blocks aren't very different, and I would assume the pistons are also the same for an '85 or '87. The only difference in dimensions of pistons is as Unit 5302 said about the '86 pistons being flat top. Even my '83 block had valve reliefs. Buy parts for the '87. You won't have any problems. Jake
