Airbag diagnostic monitor??? (Dealer wants to replace it)

Can the airbag monitor be reset or should I let the dealer (OUCH) replace it? They already socked me for 1.5 hours diag. time and the part runs a little over $200 and labor to install about another $100. They told me the code that they pulled means that the ground was interrupted somewhere along the line, but they're telling me that the only fix now is to replace the monitor.

what did the air bag thing do ( did it beep was the light on... my friends air bag thing (box, BEhind the strio Beeped five times - - - - - then aging - - - - - then agin... we called the phone # on the box and there was no answer, we dont want to take it to ford and deal with them unless we have to...

The light on the dash flashes, but it has not beeped yet.
