another cam question?
Guys what do you think would work well with my combo? i'll have fully ported gt-40's, i was thinking e-cam, but the tfs 1 seems like a powerful one, id be using 1.7 rockers, and also i have 3.27 grs in the rear for now, would it affect low end? thanx.
p.s, im just making it sort of streetable, i dont want to put heads on without a cam, all that work.... something else is going in. opinions welcome. |
I'm pretty much putting together the exact same combo you're doing, this is what i'm putting on:
have 1.7 roller rockers, 70mm Ford MAF, 70MM TB, TF street int. man., 1 5/8" uneq. headers, 2 1/2" exhaust, CAI, and installing GT40 heads, porting and gasket matching to intake and headers What was recommended to me was a B-303 cam from a custom cam grinder after i gave him all the specs for my engine (he told me to use this rather than get a custom cam...he must know it works, since he willfully lost a sale recommending this cam). and it works awesome with 1.7 roller rockers. The specs are with 1.7 RR's: .510 lift (max lift with pedestal rocker arms is ".512) with 284* total duration and 224* duration at .050" lift. The power band with this cam is crazy from 4,000 to 6,000 with a NASTY sounding idle :D If you go with something else, you may have to check valve to piston clearance. I'm going to check anyway, but this cam is about the largest you can put in without notching the pistons or converting to stud mount heads and rocker arms. |
Thanx, thats probaly what im going with, i know it sounds and performs good, my friend has one in a stroker.
It is not the biggest you can go with stock pistons, you can get away with an f-cam 226 duration .50 512/512, i know of several people that have used stock pistons with it. Thanx alot for the help, i think im decided on the b-cam. btw, i dont see how converting to stud mount heads can allow you to use more cam? have a nice day. |
Yeah, i didn't mean it WAS the largest you could put in :D, it's pretty very close to being too big of a cam with those rockers and not modifying is what i meant.
The stud mount rockers are required (from what i've read/heard) beyond .512" of lift because the geometry of the valvetrain becomes too great with the rocker arm bolted down in place without adjustability. I'm not sure if it becomes unstable, or too much pressure is put on the bolt and I really haven't looked that much into it, i've just gone with what i've heard from alot of people. |
Now hold on just a minute, We have a car with a stock bottom, AFR165s, 1.6s, and a FAT and NASTY HR266XE.
Myself, I'll say a WR1087. It is badass. I have had a B, right now the E. Yes the B has a tough idle, I loved it. But there are better cams out there. Also look at the HR258XE. |

Thanx mach, but im talking about using 1.7's with tfs 1 cam, that should put me at .542 lift on the exhaust, you think that is too much? thanx.

no, thats not too much.
what are the specs. on the x-cam? Many run it with stock pistons. I think it is close to the limits though, so that might be a good guideline. |
