Default Another crank broke!!!

My friend broke 2 within 2 months, and mine just broke. They are stock short blocks with about 100k miles on them. The crank broke right behind the first rod journal on all 3 motors. Is this a common problem?? I tell you what, WOW what a noise.

Oddness, usually the block will go before the crank does.

Something sounds funny. Any other signs of damage? How do the bearings look? How does the oil pump driveshaft look?

They were all stock shortblocks from the factory. Never rebuilt. Just about 100k miles on them. I can see why my friends broke because he went through about a bottle a day. LOL. Mine was all motor and it broke. The bearings were fine and oil pressure was good. The crank pretty much tore the whole front of the block apart. Blew the timing cover off. Bent some valves in the heads when the timing chain broke. The front half of the crank ended up hitting my radiator. Didnt hurt the radiator. I guess its a Florida thing. We do beat the hell out of our Stangs.

WOW....

You guys should seriously consider investing in a few Dart 351 blocks and forged cranks, at least....I just don't know what else to say. I've NEVER snapped a crankshaft. EVER.

I have broken a couple. Unfortunate it was due to "user error". Your buddy most likely broke it due to a mis tune. Probably went to lean and dead-in-it-ate it to hell. (I can't spell ) Any way if you look at the bearings it will generally tell you the whole story along with the wear marks on the piston skirts and cylinders.
If the bearings look like someone hit them with a tiny ball-peen hammer then your answer is big time dead-in-it-ion issues!

****, we need some spell check up in this bitch

Cool

Some one dig up the pics of mine. The first main cap breaks first, then the crank. It Just looks the other way. Mine blew the entire front half of the block and every thing in that area.
