another next mod question
i have all thats in the sig....middle to late next month im starting to save my money so i can buy my new motor this winter..so ill have a few extra bucks to spend ..and i dont know what to get for my car what will help it but not cost alot...i was thinken of doing the mark 8 fan thing and a new radiator? how much would something like that cost...and what kind of radiator if i did do it?
or i was thinken of doing a rear disc brake but..not sure how hard that is to do? anyone have any info on this? |
If you dont have cooling issues i wouldnt change anything, but if you do, i recomend getting a bigger hd pepboys radaiator 100$ i paid, and it is an upgrade since its bigger, also my electric flex a lite was 240$ so for under 350$ you can upgrade that area, but i still see 11 sec cars with clutch fans, so not a necessity.
Rear disc conversion would be costly i imagine, i wonder if anyone has used the front slotted rotors from summitt? they might be an upgrade on its own, i know my car's brakes suk:rolleyes: good luck.... P.s, realizing you have a stroker in the works, id look into a stronger clutch, i sure wish i chose something better than this frpp hd i have, it's not holding well on stickies anymore, and not very old. |
sorry i should of mentioned that...when tax time comes around ill use that for a new tranny and ill be geting a spec clutch also..and no i dont have cooling issues even though my fan is badly cracked

You should be able to get a Griffin or Fluidyne for under $300. Don't know much about after market electric fans. You might try to find a factory fan from a newer model and then put a flex-a-lite controller on it. The computer wouldn't even know it was out there.
I've got a Griffin radiator and a Flex-a-lite controller with a 160 T-stat. My car runs right around 175-180 most of the time. It'll go up to 200 when I'm killing it, but it comes right back down. 100% water will help you run cooler, too. But don't forget to add some Zerex come winter time. I'm garaged for winter so anti-freeze isn't an issue for me. BTW, How do you like the Nitto DRs? I don't know anyone around here that's using them. |
hey demon gt you definatley need to replace that cracked fan, an electric fan will definatley give you a few extra hp at the wheels so i say go for it. i have had the black magic kit for about 3 years and it is doing great. but man looking at your signature you can definatley use a set of aluminum heads, do whatever you have to do to get the extra money to get these things, you won't be sorry. and plus with alum heads you will actually run cooler and loose some weight. good luck and take it easy

i like the Nitto's...havnt had them on the track yet but on a warm day they hook good on the street...i raced a guy last weekend and when i hit second you could feel the body flex..i definitly need my sub frames to be installed....if your just looken for all out track use they might not be the best but for the street they seem fine..even in rain they arnt to slippery
im not geting heads cause im saving for a stroker...that will have AFR 185's with a X cam |
Brakes
You can get the rear conversion for disc brakes for pretty cheap. Here's two websites that were posted on the board before about it. I'm not sure if the links are gonna work so you may just have to cut and paste in your browser bar.
SIte 1: http://home.pacbell.net/black306/tech/reardisc.html Site 2: http://www.svo73mm.cjb.net/ According to these sites you can grab the main parts from a junkyard (20-50 dollars), grab a set of custom brackets(50 bucks), and get an e-brake line for another 50-80 bucks and your all set. So if your looking on getting a fan or getting disc brakes, its about the same amount of money. The choice is up to you. |
If you value your radiator and hood, id replace that fan with anything at this point, my shroud protected my hood last time, but i could imagine a cowl ripped to shredds if the fan let loose at a high speed, also my radiator was smashed, unrepairable
