Any "Pro Stock" motor guys out there?

I hope someone can answer this questions. Warren Johnson runs a 500 cu in. big block race motor with dual carbs and a tunnel-ram intake. Johnson runs 6.9 sec e.t. very often. What "Pro Stock secrets" can I apply to my Mustang to make it run better?

Well, his car is a completely different animal. It's a tube chassis car weighing around 2400 lbs., burning high octane race gas, winding out high rpms on a solid roller cam, with transmission and axle gearing to gain maximum acceleration in the quarter mile.

That said, there are some principles that could be applied, at least in a basic sense. What have you done to your car so far?

well, as moxie said its a whole nother animal. however a motor is a motor. they all work the same. as for pro stock secrets, there really arent any. it just proper engine setup and tuning. what is done to your car so far? is it carbed or injected? and most important, how fast do you want to go. although you dont have the million dollar budget w.j. has there are some things you can do that are similar to the pro's and dont cost much.

You guys ever see one of them DRCE Pro Stock blocks? Man are they cool! I've only seen one up close. They come rough cast from Caterpillar. I cant remember the name of the place he said that finishes off the cam bore, etc.... and puts in the lifter bores. It sounded to me like there were only 1 or 2 places in the country that set these blocks up. I do remember him saying that he would have ten grand in just the block!! Thats no rotating assembly either. It was cool though. I was impressed.

I recently sold my '88 GT with a 306, T5 and a Vortech S-trim to a "rich" kid for $4500. I rebuilt the car twice in the five years that I owned it. The first accident happened when my buddy went up an on-ramp to quickly in the rain. I was so angry, I almost ripped his head off. It needed a nose and frame work and he picked up the bill on that one. The next accident was my fault. Up here in New England, we have snow on the ground for about three months a year. I made it through the winter on bald 15" Goodyears (thank god). Spring came and one little patch of "black ice" helped my stang get "D.P." while going through a tunnel. I needed another nose, frame work and a rear bumper this time. When we finished the work on the car, it still went "straight" down the road. I'm building another 5.0 GT, but this one will have a roll cage and a 351.

I'm not sure, but I think Pro Stock motors run a 16:1 compression ratio. Winston Cup motors are 750hp 15:1 357Ws right?

Those blocks are $1,700 brand new, for the tall deck, wet sump, which is the most expensive one. Add ~300 for finish machine work and you have a very stout block that's good for about 480" There is no way a DRCE block will cost 10K.

pro stock has rules you dont .
There biggest secret though is spare parts
believe me if we all had spare trannies and engines we would be running faster but blowing more things up.

2 grand for a pro stock block, huh? Hell, at that rate we could probably have an entire engine for 8 grand. Its a wonder we're not all pro stock racers. Here's an idea for you. The winston cup engines are not 15:1 nor are they 351w`s. theyhave had recent reductions in comp/ratio.

What compression ratio are they running and what block are they using? How much hp does a 2001 Winston Cup car engine make?

I just realized you may be talking about big block DRCE, and if so, I know nothing about them. The only DRCE I've seen were small block, tall deck "olds" motors. If you are talking about the one which I was talking about- the one that can go 480" then the prices I quoted are correct.

You are awfully rude, by the way- a regular DESKTOP WARRIOR.
