What auto tranny do you recomend for a 96 Stang?
I posted just a while back about a friend of mine who was having problems with the auto tranny in his 96 GT. The prices shops want to just tear into his car are ridiculous, so he would like to just put a new tranny into it. He wants something better than stock but likely will not put massive amounts of power through it. I would say it will probably just see the typical bolt-ons and maybe an intake or something through its life, no power adders or anything.
I am more of a 5.0 guy and haven't dealt with auto trannies much, so what do you guys recommned?

For just typical bolt ons, I would go with a 99+ GT trans.
For a good priced trans built to his specs: http://www.reinhartautomotive.com/

Cool. I will pass on the link to him. I assume the 99+ bolts right onto the 96...
How much stronger are the 99+ than the 96's? I have probably seen their numbers before, but don't guess I ever paid attention to them .

For around a grand you can buy a really nice tranny that has been built with upgradded clutches, shaft, and has the manual valve body to boot. (hold in any gear to any rpm ). Go to e-bay and look under "4R70W". the company is in NC and does not charge for a core! It has a full warrenty and everything. You could also check Performance Automatics or Art Carr. If you can do the switch youself its definetly cheaper to just buy a new one.
