Anyone familiar with Carter AFB carbs?
Today I started my engine in the '82 and my friend noticed fuel was coming from between the top gasket around where the accelerator pump is everytime I gave it some gas.
When I shut it off, gas was still leaking down the carb. Do I have a blown gasket or is the accelerator pump blown? I had a spare Cater laying around so I slapped that one on but when I started it up again, the engine revs went through the roof with my foot off the gas!! If I didn't shut it off quick it probably would have blown!! This second carb. I used doesn't have the linkage on the passenger side. I don't know what it does but it seems to connect the primaries to the secondaries. Is that linkage the reason for the revs soaring sky high? My signature says I have a holley 750 but actually that's not coming until Spring when I put it back on the road and have some more funds to blow. |
Its been a while since I messed with one of those. I think they had a plastic tube from the pump to the discharge. Pull the top off and check that and also check float level. Make have a piece of dirt on needle and seat. Yes that missing linkage shuts the secondary. The secondary throttle is probably hanging open without linkage
