Anyone have this problem

When its hot out side I can smell gas coming form my vent, it gets worse when I check under the hood (only when its a hot day) what does this mean

Could it be running too rich ? Your A/C runs off vacuum, so if it's running rich and you're getting blow-by, the fumes will in turn go into the vacuum hoses and open the vents, and you could actually smell the gas.

Just my .02, again, I'm not for sure, so don't quote me on this.

I had the same problem when running rich. I've got a carb and the smell was overpowering. After fixing a bad float the smell was gone.

My guess is that the excess heat is causing the gasoline in the tank to vaporize and then is getting pushed up to the charcoal canister. I would check the vacuum line going from the charcoal canister to the intake for cracks or holes.

hey jimberg what is the charcoal canister

jimberg 08-02-2001 01:40 AM

It's the little black box toward the front just forward of the air pump. It's there to collect fuel vapor coming from the fuel tank and then release it into the intake to be burned.
