Anyone heard of this intake?

I was in a local speed shop today and they had an intake that was an exact copy of the Edelbrock Performer 5.0. I can't remember the company, but it was $299 for the satin one and $399 for polished. It looked great. They said that they have sold quite a few of them and people have loved them. Anyone have one of these clones? I may look into one of these after I get heads.

Sounds like the MAC intake to me. I didn't know they had it on the market yet. I saw it in a magazine, looked pretty descent to me, and it's cheap. -Chris

On e-bay there is some one selling a intake that looks like edelbrock. It is not a mac brand though. Found this item under mustang intakes. I think the guy selling intake was from Ohio. The intake was polished and he was asking same price as mac. Take a look at it.

Could be the one from Professional Products. They're fairly new on the Ford scene...the debued the intake this year in the Performance Racing Industry trade show. My guess is it's the same one MAC was working on seeing as how MAC kinda quietly let their idea dissappear. I just can't see how they get around the patent issues.

Mac intake

It sounds like the Mac intake. If it isn't maybe Mac sold the rights to it. They pulled theirs off the market early last year. I was going to get one. My local shop told me that Mac had tested theirs and they weren't getting the numbers that they wanted and pulled it. It was supposed to be a good intake.

Hey guys!

The MAC intake has not been released yet.

The intake you guys are discussing is the brand new "Professional Products Typhoon" It is based on the Edelbrock RPM intake. The range is 1500-6500.

We will be buying one for the site and a complete review will follow soon. I hope to have the intake in 2 weeks. We will then take it to the dyno to get some numbers.

Here is a picture:

Here are the specs:

The Power+Plus HPS (High Performance Street) is designed for '86-95 Ford Mustangs w/5.0L engine. This manifold can be used with nitrous, supercharged, or bracket racing applications. Ideal for high performance street applications as well.

Features a 70mm diameter inlet

Stock replacement street legal part for for '86-'95 Ford Mustangs w/5.0L engine.

The retail is high, but I can get the satin for $330 and the polished for about $430 or so.

If you need more info, just post :D

I know MAC was contracting the intake manufacturing out to somebody else. It was going to be kind of a "joint effort" between MAC and another company.

Im thinking that company was "professional Products" and that this is indeed the MAc intake, its just no longer being marketed as a MAC intake and I guess MAc pulled out and I dont think we will be seeing a MAC intake at all.

Interesting.....it could very well be.

I am looking forward to seeing the intake in person, the whole thing is hand polished!

A year and a half ago 5.0 Magazine did the first story on the intake and MAC said that it was a Edelbrock intake and they only manufactured the end cap. My guess is that it is like everything else, Edelbrock would probably sell the intake but by the time MAC figured in the expense it would retail for more than Edelbrock and what marketing sense would that make. Because in the story MAC said i would sell for $299 then when it was released on the web site it was $399. It is hard to buy something and then put your name on it and make a profit in the automotive industry. Edelbrock just wants to sell parts so they would sell 100 at a time to MAC and already make profit MAC had to make new end plates and then market the intake then try making it less then the Edelbrock and still make a profit. You see it everyday in MMFF and 5.0 magazine when you see fuel injectors for sale. 95 percent of those injectors are made by Bosch with other names and custom colors on the bodies. I visited Bosch 2 years ago and on one line they had Accell injectors being made and on another line that day a generic color injector was being made for auto part stores Same unit but some assy. people put them in different boxes after putting on the o-ring.

I read that same article. I dont think it was an edelbrock intake with a MAC end plate. The way I remember reading it, it was based on the edelbrock intake with several improvements, one being the cover plate.

And the intake your looking at from "professional products" is more than likely the MAC intake in question.

Why would professional products buy edelbrock intakes and then sell then cheaper, or Mac?

Because they arent edelbrock intakes, thats why. They are virtually identical, but manufactured by a different company.

lookie at the pictue closly..id much rather have that intake that the elderbrocks..there is no inside hidden bolt on that:D on that you have to take the end cover off of..notice the 2 bolts on the top of the intake..this look like it is based on the elderbrock thought but improved..and if it is the mac intake then it flows 35 more cfm than the performer(makes sence sence its power range is up to 6500 for a 302)

LX XLR8R 02-27-2002 02:07 PM

woooops..just rember that the elderbrock RPM has exposed top bolts..only the regular performer has the hidden one

Mach 1 02-27-2002 02:22 PM

The intake is a copy of the performer RPM, not the performer.

88COBRA 02-27-2002 02:56 PM

Chris is correct, this intake compares to the RPM.

I think the intake looks awesome! I cannot wait to see it in person.
