Default Anyone run a crankcase evak. pump?

On the dyno I noticed my oil breather cap looked like a smoke stack in the upper RPM's. I can't afford a rebuild now since I just bought my TKO tranny. I was looking for ways to gain some power, and I thought a crankcase pump would help me out since I obviously have some blowby. I heard a while back that there was a part from the 96-98 cobras to use, but at the time I didn't note the part number. Anyone run one of these, or know how to make one?

Older (pre-1985) smog pumps can be used, but that takes a little creativity. Another option is to install an evac kit, available from anyone who sells Moroso parts. It consists of two breathers with an exit on each, two one way valves, and two exit tubes. You weld the exit tubes into the exhaust near the collectors, and run a 5/8" hose from the breather exits to the exit tubes, with the one way valves in between. This set-up then uses the exhaust to pull the blowby out of the engine for you. It frees up quite a few horsepower, but if your blowby is severe, it can also suck oil into your pipes.

Take care,
-Chris

Thumbs up

The part you are refering to is an emissions pump. I have it and it works fine for me. I have no oil leaks or dipsticks blowing out. I did have a breather on the valve cover, but my blow by was bad enough that I had small oil droplets being pushed out. Now, its great, a clean engine again. The pump comes with 5/8" hose fittings. I didn't want to hack up my "go fast" chrome valve covers , so I drilled and tapped an old oil fill cap with a 3/4 MPT with a 90 deg end and a 5/8" hose on the other. Works great. Cost is about $180-120 depending on the dealer. I bought mine used for 70. Hope this helps.

I would like to know what you deciede to do on this.

My car does it BAD! The motor doesnt burn any oil, but under WOT, especially under N20 it spews oil out of that thing down onto the headers and burns it like crazy..

Looking through last years Summit catalog, they have two vacuum pumps and the Moroso kit I was talking about. The vac pump kits are over $500. The Moroso evac kit is $60 + $14 if you need the breathers.

Sky-
I'm pretty sure I've got the pieces if you want to weld them in.

Take care,
-Chris

Sky, I had the same problem, this pump fixed mine. I actually picked up a tenth and 1.5 mph.
