Default tooth gear for 3.73, please

I'll change to 3.73 gears, and read here once about the correct speedo gear , but couldn't find it anymore. What color, 21 or 23, and where to and how to change it. As I remember it was a pretty easy fix.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for lapse of memory!

i have 3.73 and i got a 21 tooth, i got mine from steeda, dont ask why, i found plenty of cheeper ones, i think it was red if that makes a difference, on your transmission, there is a cable that runs from the driverside, near the shifter i think through the firewall to the spedo, you can pop the hood and follow it down to the correct one, this is the only cable i have going to my tranny since i took out all the computers in my car and converted to a carb, but i want to say its the closest one to the driveshaft end of the transmission, if that makes any sence, but like i said you can follow the cable,, all you have to do is pop out that little harness and swap the gear, esy as that, you might have a little trouble gettingthe harness out, but just play around with it, its not that bad. I actually think you can get a gear from your local ford dealer, mine was 9.95 from steeda, plus shipping

Its going to depend on what drive gear you have. Chances are you are going to have a green (8 tooth) drive gear. If thats the case it will need to be changed to a yellow (7 tooth) or a black (6 tooth). If you use a 7 you will need a red (21 tooth) driven gear. If you go with the 6 you will need a yellow (18 tooth) driven gear.

All of these can be bought at any ford parts dealer. Heres the part numbers.

Drive Gears:
6 tooth Black - E3ZZ-B
7 tooth Yellow- E3ZZ-A
8 tooth Green - F0ZZ-A

Driven Gears:
(manual trans)
17 tooth White - C3DZ-C
18 tooth Yellow - C0DD-B
19 tooth Pink - C0DZ-B
20 tooth Black - C1DZ-A
21 tooth Red - C4OZ-A

Hope this helps
andy
