Angry AOD is dying again

Well on the way home tonight the ole OD band was slipping like mad. I still have decent 1-2-3 shifts but od wouldnt even lock in if gave any gas at all. What a bum deal, just got the intake and cam in w/ 3yrs on aod rebuild. The wife is gonna be pissed, I've put about a $1,000 dollars in past 4 weeks (credit card people are loving me). I was thinking a lentech torque conv. and valve body, but now i am torn between 5 spd. swap or street terminator. I love the consitency(spelling) of the aod, but $2,000 is way beyond my means right now. I can prolly get a T5 for about 50-100 beans and have pedals at my work, flywheel my buddy has and will prolly give me. UHHHHHGGGGGGGG!!!!! John

I just had my aod od fixed too. It was 85 bucks for parts(kevlar bands) and labor. They can change it out with it in the car. They said its the only one you can get to by dropping the pan. That was about three months ago, and its been working great.Unfortunately we've been breaking in the 347 and got on it this past weekend and fried second. Lentech is next. Good luck.

I had the same problem with the aod in my 93. That was the last time that I will ever get an automatic unless I buy a truck. I to had a bunch of the parts to do a 5-speed conversion, so I did it. I put in a tremec 3550 and it was the best choice for me because I hate autos anyway. It freed up allot of power and I get better mpg to, dosn't even feel like the same car. If it is cheaper to do the swap I say go for it.

Two words.....Lentech Automatics! If you're thinking of staying with the AOD, its the only way to go. Consider it an investment. I just put a full season on mine with a 5200 stall and it never so much as moaned at me once...except in joy that is. Its been the best thing I've ever done for my Mustang; I don't miss the T5 at all. Went through four T5s, but haven't even scratched the AOD yet.

Yep the car is gonna sit till fri. nite, then gonna drive to track( still have 1-2-3 hehe). If she goes theres always AAA. Time to start workn some serious OT for the lentech. BTW 347 mom, I went by a tranny shop today and BS'd w/them. They said and showed me that the band connot be pulled w/out r&r'ing the tranny. They told me that mabey whoever did yours might have just put a "shim" in your od servo. John
