I once lost third gear, but I also had no OD either. I had to drive home with 4.10's in 2nd. Ended up being some clip that came broke in the tranny. I had it fixed by professionals that time.

Does the transmission have the same miles on it as the car? Do you have OD?

yeah its the original tranny im not sure if it has od or not it shifts fine first and second but when it shifts to third the motor just revs up like its in neutral and then you have to put it back into drive

When it broke the time I was referring too, I was too new to Aods to fix it myself. I just know the tranny guy told me it was a clip. I know he fixed it in the car, so that tells me it probably was in the valve body somewhere.

I have also had the problem of shifting into 4th gear, doing the same thing yours is doing, just revving. The problem for me was once a broken od band, and the other time it was because the servo was not engaged into the band properly.

It sounds like your servo is not engaged from the sounds of it. Are you saying you found one of the clips that holds the servo in place to be broken? The servos can be quite hard to move in there.

Truth be told, if your transmission really has that kind of mileage on it, you are going to be chasing demons in that tranny forever. I would recommend pulling it and having it gone thru. If you have to get it going, you need to try and see why the clip came loose.

Could possibly be a broken input shaft. The aod has a 2 piece input, and one of them bypasses the converter for locking drive and overdrive. First, second, and reverse will still work though, ran into it on a friends lx. good luck.

Check the bushing/clip of the TV cable at the throttle bracket, if you inadvertently drove the car with it disconnected......you have burnt clutches. Typical failure of AOD's, and reason why they changed the nylon bushing of the accel linkage to a metal one as described here. Hope this helps.
