AOD Shuffle hurt Tranny?

I was concerned about how hard the AOD shuffle is on the tranny? My tranmission is basically in perfect shape right now, and i don't want to mess something up.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I have a T-5 so my word is not scripture or anything. But i have heard that over time (and not long time) it will hurt. My friends AOD was toasted from it after about a year, using it when at the track and street racing, not much though. Just what i've seen/heard. Be careful! I had an '87 GT with the AOD. After using the AOD shuffle sparingly for a couple months, I burned 2nd gear. $1100 for a rebuild and shift kit. You may want to contact Level 10 Performance if you plan on putting serious power through it.

but who cares if it gets hurt, it's just an AOD! the short answer is yes, it will hurt your transmission. but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it--it hurts it by inflicting excess wear on the transmission, not by any act of it's own. just don't do it all the time, you should be fine for a while.

i used to have an AOD in my car, and after a rebuild i did the 1-d-1 shift ALL the time, i'd say half of the time i shifted it myself just cause i like to have control (and just incase a camaro comes out of nowhere http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif ) i drove it like this for a year and about 10-15k miles before i swapped it for a T-5, it was still very strong when i pulled it out.
i worked at a ford dealer this summer and both of the tranny guys there (both big into stangs) said that it will burn out the overdrive band, if i remember correctly when you do the shift, it momentarily engages that band and therefore can burn it up easier. i'd say go for it anyway, i did and with a stock rebuild it held up perfect.
if you want to be sure, get a lentech valve body, or if you want complete peace of mind about the tranny, get a whole lentech AOD.

It is harmful to any AOD type OD trans 98 and older because the exhaust flow from the direct
clutch cylinder is too slow.
