Default Approx. what will this combo run in the 1/4?

You guys probaly hate these ?'s, but im asking anyways

Its an '86 5.0 hatchback, its going to have 4:10 gears, 70mm throttle body, probaly a custom cold air intake, dual exhaust(probaly with hollowed out cats), Ford Racing Cobra intake, sub frame connectors, underdrive pulleys, factory aod trans.

Is there any part of that combo I should change?

You are probably looking at high 14's or low 15's depending on the type of tires you are running.

The 70mm TB seems big for your combo but leaves room for any more work you plan on doing.

70mm probaly is too big for that setup, but I'll be adding more stuff in the future.

I might be getting tires that are basically street legal slicks to go with that combo. How much would those help?

What exactly do you mean by street legal slicks? Are you refering to M/T E.T. Streets? If you are, you will only be able to drive the car when the road is 100%dry and no sand/dirt. They are ussually only seen at the track, or on weekend cruisers. Never on a dialy driver. If you get them, expect to see a reduction of 1+ seconds (with a converter matched to your combo). They hook as good as slicks with the right PSI.
If you were refering to drag radials, they will also help out greatly. Good suspension tuners have gotten <1.4 60 ft times with them. You will be able to put those on your daily driver.

But before you make anymore mods, I suggest you pick up a good aftermarket torque converter. That will give the biggest improvments.

I'd like to get a torque converter, but they seem pretty expensive for AOD's. Ill have to keep shopping around I guess.

Are there any other intakes that are better than the Cobra for about the same price?

Any other mods I should look into? I'm not sure if I can step-up the cam or not since the '86 had junk heads an pistons.

I have a similar combo as what you want, and I am low 14s consistently. I have a converter but it is junk, so I may be going to a stick. You should probably expect mid to high 14s. You don't have the E7 heads, so those will hurt you and the larger Tbody will hurt also. The tranny is junk, so a converter should help. Good luck.

Well you should be in the low 15's.

Here are some suggestions I have for you combo...

Ditch the 70mm TB it's WAY to big. Get a 65mm they are still good up to 500hp.

Get a set of E7 heads, your heads suck *** for flow. Port em too while your at it. Or you could pick up a set of GT-40P's. They are $630 from Central Coast Mustang, that includes a stage 1 port, stainless valves, and springs good to .570 lift.

You can get a explorer intake for $275 new from Central Coast Mustang, it only flows 10cfm less than a Cobra. You might as well get that ported too.

You need a stall BAD, I suggest a 2800-3000.

I agree with tireburner.

You should be able to find a set of E7s (87-95 mustang) heads for real cheap. Port them a little at home with a drill and some cheap grinding bits. Take them to a machine shop and mill them for added comrpession $40.

Get the explorer intake, mill that to match your heads, probably another $40.

Get a 65mm TB. The 4.10 gears, and a off-road H pipe.

we just made a 89 hathc with a 86 bottom end and 87 heads intake, tb..we also put in a b-303 and 3.73s and full exhaust... this thing rips for being nearly stock..as for tb..use the stock tb..you will be much faster than the 70mm
