Angry ARGH Tranny almost dead..will new one fit??

K well the stupid tranny is definetely on its way out, with rattles and grinding aplenty...but no fear! I have another one! BUT..its out of an eighty six (sorry six key is broken ) Will it bolt up? I heard my 94 orginial t5 has a different input shaft and bellhousing. Is this true? I have my doubts, but better to ask you guys first rather then find out later..

I'm not sure off the top of my head. I can't remember if the change was to the input shaft in 1994, or whether or not it was only on the T45 in 1996.

The 1986 T-5 is weaker than your old one for sure.

'94 - '95 Borg-Warner T-5 300 ft-lbs
These transmissions have a different (3/4" longer) input shaft. The clutch cable
entry point on the bell housing was moved downward approximately 3" and the
cable will hit the sump of a "T" oil pan (Avaid, Canton, etc.). Large, long tube
headers will also hit the cable cover.

Looks like you may not be able to use it.

How much do you have of the 1986 T-5? If you have the bell housing it should match up to the 5.0, you may have problems with the tranny mount though.

Incidentally, your T-5 was rated at 300lb/ft, the 1986 unit IS rated at 265lb/ft. It has a 3.35 first gear ratio (not necessarily better with your 4.10's, it'll make your 1st gear shorter), and a needle bearing inputshaft.

I had an 86 in my 87 and when it blew I went to the T-5z, when I did I lost out of the hole bad, but then I've got 2.73:1 rear gears.
