Default ash tray fix?

my ashtray door was broken when I bought by car and I understand that there are kits to replace it, but I took out my console and the plastic housing that the door sits in has broken off. Will a kit repair this or will I have to design a new housing for it? Thanks for any help? It looks really bad with my console out.

Default Ash tray door fix

I went to Home Depot and bought a few different size springs for about 69 cents each. Works great and I didn't spend $22.00 for a kit or $6.95 for the same spring!

Does anyone make parts to fix the doors themselve. Both of the doors that I have, have broken arms. I found a plastic door at a boneyard, but it looks stressed at the arm too.

I know that up until '90, and maybe '91, the ashtray doors were metal. You could always try and find one of those and your problems with the arms would be history! Mine has held in there with no problems since day-1!!
