Default What do you think of this engine combo?

Here is what my new engine combo will be for my 351w powered '82GT so far:

10:1 compression forged pistons
351w bored .060
1969 or '70 351 heads with 3 angle valve job and port matching.
Edelbrock performer intake with Carter carb.(625cfm)
double roller timing chain

I'm thinking about a hydraulic cam from Crower cams with the following specs"

284/294 duration .498/.501 lift 108* LSA

I'll still be running my C-4 but with a 2100 stall converter and 3:73 gears

I know I can go with a bigger carb. but that's all I have right now.
This project won't be complete until next summer but it's now underway!!
What do you guys think?
I'll be hoping to run high 12's or low 13's

what is the cam specs at .050" lift, i am going to assume right around 230 degrees, and if that is the case, i would recommend a little bit more aggressive intake like an RPM intake or something similar. Also i would recommend 1 5/8" headers or bigger. Your going to be capable of 6000 to 6200 rpm with that cam selection, and incase you ever do decide to run n20, the extra exhaust will help. peace

The specs @ .050 are around 230*. I think it's a tad bit less on the intake side though. I know the exhaust side is 230.
I've heard the Ford engine like duel profile cams.
I already have 1 5/8 headers and 2.5 inch exhaust.

I checked those specs again. Intake is 224* and exhaust is 232* @.050

Do you think this grind is agressive enough for my combo or could I stand to go a little more?

Sounds like a good combo. I agree that intake would better with RPM or torker, the cam with 108 center and that duration is going to be bit much with 2100 convertor, at least 2600 or 2800 would be much better . One other thing to look for is a way of valve adjustment (screw in studs & guide plates would be best) I had a 85 stang back in 1989 w/ 351 030 over (060 is getting a little thin) torker 2, 750 holley, 9.5 comp. crane commander cam 224, 234 at 50 110 ceterline 69 heads ported with studs and guide plate, 1.6 rollers 373 gears and 2800 converter went 12.54 @ 105. good luck

I'd ditch the Carter, decent mileage but poor performance. I got rid of mine and even though holleys have annoyed me in the past, the difference in power is not in question. If you go to the track, the guys running hard are all using a holley or a demon.
I'd go with an RPM intake as well. Other than that, should be a decent combo.

The carb will be fine - go with a 2800-3000 stall as recommended.
