Another day at the track
I am sick of going to the ice rink I normally go to, so I took a longer drive to Ubly dragway. First off, this track hooks hard!
OK, The weather was pretty $hitty. The first hour saw rain delays, and the temp was in the upper 80's with I would guess 100% humidity. (obviously, it was raining!) I set my timing to 17 degrees and made my first pass. I left at idle being used to my previous tracks horrible traction. No spin. A 2.0x 60 ft, and a 13.2 @ 106. That mph is down, and the car felt sluggish. I open the hood to find my SPOUT siting on the radiator. NICE! So I put the spout in, ice the motor down and run again. I launch at 4 grand, slightly slipping the clutch. It hooks hard and I fly forward. I powershift 2nd and hear EEEEEEAAAARRRRRRRRRR as my clutch slips like mad. I abort the run and limp back to the pits. I 60 ft'ed a 1.74!!!! AND MY CLUTCH SLIPPED! That would have been a sweet run. I babied a couple more motor runs being easy on the clutch. A few 12.7-12.8's @ 108-109. so I try the spray. I leave again at idle, short shift into 2nd and stomp it down. I get a 2.0 60 ft, and a 12.0 @ 121.xx. I ice down again and run A NEW BEST OF 11.80 @ 122.xx. My 60 ft was a low 1.9. I made 2 more 11 second back up passes. 11.89, and an 11.94 both at 121.xx mph. What sucks is that after each pass I could smell clutch really bad. Kinda smells like burning brakes. I drove 2 hrs to the track so I probably should have quit when it first slipped, but it all worked out well and I made it home in one piece. You guys should have seen all the slooooww crap there. Trailered "drag cars" running low 12's, and a new supercharged GT that made maybe 2 13 second passes, the rest in the low 14's. The lightly modded LS1's were only trapping 105 compared to their usual 107-109. Kindofa crappy day. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 11.8 @ 123 (7/14/01) 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer |

Nice runs. I wonder what it would have done if you could have got that 1.7 60' on a good full run! That would have been mid 11's I bet.

Not bad at all for a slipping clutch!
Lapeer wasn't toooo bad today(I can't complain) I used a 28"slick for a change and was happy with the results. I went a new best of 10.62@132!! on a 1.51 60'new best also. On motor I didn't go a new best but I went 11.56@119 on a 1.53 60' new best motor 60' also(lapeer printed a 1.40 ONE time before on a 11.44 pass, but I'm certain it was wrong LOL) For the chitty weather I'm more then happy I can't wait for the cooler weather to get here. I also tried a 200 shot, but that didn't work it ran worse then on the 150 shot! FP stayed good and the plugs looked fine so I'm thinkin the bottle pressure got low...I'll have to investigate...Now I have to buy a 28" tire since the car seemed to like it GRRRRR it never ends!! ------------------ 351w, tremec trans Best N/A Pass 11.44@120 Best Nitrous Pass 10.73@128@Norwalk....9th in True Street |

Sounds like the car is becoming a consistent high 11 ride. Nice work!

Sky,
My clutch is a Motorsport unit. I was installed before I bought the car 3 years ago!!! I really can't believe it has lasted this long. I think I will go with another one too. Rick, Did you make any drag radial passes? I wonder if that track was actually prepped, being Sunday was a big money race and all. I think I might run at Ubly again until I get some ET streets. My car also does not feel much faster with the 150 jets. Factoring in the weather and different tracks I am guessing I might have picked up only 2 mph. my bottle pressure was pretty low @ 800 psi too though. I'll get it all worked out when the weather cools off. EZ, I was pretty geeked considering the clutch and all. Last weekend I made my first 11 second pass, then this weekend I get a handfull of them! |

Also I forgot to write, I ran a new white Saleen on the freeway near M-53 and 23 mile rd. He had no supercharged decals no I got next to him with my bottle open and told him to take the leave. I gave him and easy car jump from a 55ish roll, then stomped it down. I took it to the top of 4th and had only about 4 or 5 cars on him. This was at 120 plus.
We both got off at the same exit and I asked what work he had because his car runs strong. He said "gutted cats" with a grin. His passenger was doing the talking. I figure maybe, thinking of my wife in my car, floorjack, tool box, cooler, chairs, etc... then he leaves the light and I hear blower whine! At the next light I ask about the blower. (whether he put one on a non-blown Saleen) He said his supercharged emblem "fell off" HA!!! sneaky, sneaky..... |

Badasslx, I want to copy your combo. What kind of a custom burn JMS chip do you have? Do you have any port matching on your intake and heads?
You have the track heat upper and lower? not the street heat? How is your E-303 cam degreed? How much FP are you running? Plug gap? Anything im missing? Exgm- I have the same clutch, its held up great also. Ive abused the hell out of it, and its really surprized me. They seem to be really good units for the cheap price.

I didn't make any passes on the d/r's, but the one I made on my street et's was awful. I made one pass on them right off the street. I only stopped to lower tire pressure and went 11.05 @ 130 with an off 1.76 60'. Not too bad considering I just drove 40 miles. If your intrested in my street et's let me know. I have a "few" passes on them, but they still look real good. 26x11.5's |

175?!@?!?@ lol I'm really not sure I'm looking to sell the pair and be able to buy one 28x12.5..If it seems high let me know I've never had to sell tires before so I have no idea on their worth. Also you can bolt them on and give them a try before I break them off the welds to see if you like them first...

Sky, I've got the TFS track heat (even though everyone said the runners would be too long and I'd lose low end torque - I didn't see it - but I do see, along w/ my e cam ALOT of mid-high end torque). All I had to do w/ the intake to head was to "slightly" gasket match it with fel-pros.... not even worth the extra cash to port them out. With your TFS heads to intake - you won't even have to do that. I've still got my crappy stock rocker arms, so I'm obviously not getting everything out of my cam yet (that's pat of my 12/01 mods). Plugs are gapped to the MSD 6AL specifications. We played w/ fp and found that 39 psi worked best w/ what I've got. Chris Johnson at JMS is great.....he tuned the chip to my exact specs - and at a great price ($300) - only other time he'll have to reburn my program is when I add some "juice". Before my chip went in, with all my other mods, the car ran good, but the idle surged like hell. It would stall out after 3 minutes at idle. Since it went in, I ran it for 30 minutes at idle with all the accessories on, then got bored so I turned it off (the temp never got past the M in NORMAL!

I'll have to try those tires the next time we go to the track. I really want to get a little gear back. These 28's are too damn tall.

I took them off my welds Friday and mounted new et streets 28/12.5-15. They are BIG LOL I still have the 26's, but they are wheel less ....I'm planning on Lapeer next weekend so let me know if you can make it. I have a couple buddies that are looking to make it out.
Also if you still haven't replaced the clutch look into...SPEC(star performance engineered clutches) 800-828-4379 I have a stage 3(Carbon disk) in my car. Great pedal and it's release is faster then anything I've ever used. I'm real happy with it so far. I had good luck with the Motorsport hd when I had a 302, but it only made it a couple spray passes with the 351. ------------------ 351w, tremec trans Best N/A Pass 11.44@120 Best Nitrous Pass 10.62@132 |

Pricey? I have not replaced my clutch. I just had to buy a washer, stove, and dishwasher for my new house. Broke city for a couple weeks. I do want the tires though. For sure.

Not to pricey...it will be more then your motorsport though. I think it was 350.00 give or take. I had no problem spending that after I tore up a Ram long style clutch with the iron sintered disk last year which was around 600. The kits comes with pp, disk, tb, and alignment tool. Of course after dropping all that coin on the house a hd ms will get you by just fine
