battery light on and off in the pkwy!!??
Hi everyone.
I'm sure the heat wave is affecting everyone some way or another. Today, on the parkway I suddenly got the red battery light while I was crusing down the highway. It started going on and then off. In addition, the voltmeter in the instrument gauges shot up al the way. I made sure the brake light was off. So far everything under the hood looks normal and the car runs good w/ no overheating. Any ideas as to what's happening? Thanks. fongo

I'd put a voltmeter on the battery and see for sure if your alternator is charging.

Usually the light turns on when the alternator isn't charging, however, the fact that the volt meter shot way up could be an indication that your voltage regulator is going out. On many systems its located on the back of the alternator. I used to have an external regulator that went out on me. When that happened it blew out the bulb on my cop light.

that was the first sign that my alternator was going. If you need to replace it get a 130 amp model from powermaster. Bigger than stock and reasonably priced. That is my next project this summer when I have time.
