bbk White face guage backlight problem

I can't be the only one with this problem.
At night the back lighting is unbearable, you cannot even see any of the numbers on the speedo that are in front of the speedo mechanism(it blocks the light) ,you can see 0mph,then 60-85mph(top) &140mph that's it!! On the Tach it's not as bad but my 88 has a bulb right behind the "yellow zone" and it's blinding. Also in "unleaded fuel only" you see"eaded fuel o".
I took the speedo face back off thinking it was bad but hold a flashlight behind it and all the numbers show up perfectly,so
I put brighter 282 bulbs in and a dimmer 169 behind yellow on tach. stock is 194's.the dimmer bulb helped with the brightness on the tach. but still can't see speedo numbers any better!!
Sorry so long but I can't see why everyone would'nd have this problem yet I never heard any other complants.
Also I don't know anyone else who has them to ask or see theirs.

When I had BBK's I had forgotton to clean the surface after I removed the stock guages. Other than that, I really did not notice these other problem with mine. I went with El-Glo's and with those, you have to leave the stock ones on. Sorry it is not much help

I did the same thing, I forgot to clean the surface, and that made the BBK ones look like **** at night.

I assume you guys are referring to the clear plastic piece that you stick the guage face to, well mine was totally clean, old one pulled right off plastic piece does have reflector type raised patterns ,like a bike reflector but clear, it's stock 88, but agian
clean & clear??
Today I got some super bright halogens 8 bucks apiece I'll try but I hope they don't burn up the electronic plastic backing where they get power? Also may be too bright elsewhere & still won't be able to #'s I'll let you know when I put them in.
I've been thinking about the el- glos are they a lot better?
Thanks guys!

We ment by clean by using a cleaner to get the old glue off the plastic surface before appling the new guages. But if you did that, than I am clueless as to what the problem is.

I got mine form here www.nrauto.com

Let me see if I can get that pic to post.

They ae alot brighter at full night. Also there is a small controller that allows you to change from blue to green and its brightness. I think they were around $110. I have seen a few others that are like it and cost less. Run a search on my name, I help a guy a few weeks back with his install and I cant remember where he got his from but it is in that post.
