Post Belt

How should the belt wrap around without the air pump?

i just did this and kept the same belt routing. all you have to do is get a shorter belt so that the length of belt between the water pump pulley and the alternator dont touch. this pushes the tenshioner up higher and out of the way. i did it that way because the water pump pulley is smooth and if i routed ithe belt like jimberg said the grooves of the belt would be worn down by the smooth side of the water pump pulley.
the belt i went with was 76 5/8" long (with A/C). try it out. i hope it works for you.

Adam, take another look. The routing in the picture does have the smooth side of the belt on the water pump pulley. Follow it around with your eye. If the grooved side of the belt was making contact then the smooth side would be contacting the crank pulley. The pictured routing also gives you ample clearance from the tensioner pulley.

wITH THE RED LINE THE BELT WOULD TURN THE WATER PUMP THE WRONG WAY, AND THE FAN. DON`T GO BY THIS CHART.

Well, i tried a 77 inch belt and at first it was fine, but now it has stretched and is rubbing itself.

Jeff, it won't rub with the routing in the diagram. I can't really tell you the length belt to use, though.

429AL, yes, the fan direction is a real head scratcher at first, but as you figured out, it's correct. I discovered this by accident when I put my belt on wrong after the rebuild of my car. Even if you aren't trying to bypass the air pump, this routing uses a shorter belt.
