Belt Length & A/C Eliminator Kit for Dummies
Hello everyone!
Well, for the time being, I went with the Ford A/C eliminator kit and kept the P/S. First, let me say that THE A/C ELIMINATOR KIT SHOULD COME WITH iNSTRUCTIONS!!!! At least mine did not! I used the exploded view in the shop manual to go by, but with all those little parts and arrows and bolts, it was tough to figure out exactly what went where. It seemed to me that I had to remove the pulley. This REALLY frustrated me, and I even bought a pulley removal tool and attempted to remove the pulley (unsuccessfully) before further study of the diagram resulted in the enlightenment! For those of you considering this route, IT IS REALLY MUCH EASIER THAN I MADE IT OUT TO BE! :) Anyway, back to my inquiry. As a baseline to start from, could someone out there with a similar setup tell me what belt length they are using? My setup is as follows: ALT, CRANK, WP, P/S, tensioner I don't have the smog pump or the A/C anymore. ((I know, I'm taking the lazy internet way to find out)) :-) Also, during my ordeal, I pumped some (most?) of the fluid from the P/S resevoir and unhooked the two lines from the pump. Of course, only after the 'enlightenment' did I realize I never needed to do this, but.....I reconnected everything and refilled the resevoir. I have NOT started the car yet. Have I screwed up? Is there anything I can do before starting it to avoid getting air in the P/S system? Thanks for any help, suggestions, tips, humorous comments! |
Of course, I used the *search* feature AFTER I posted my
questions. Any answers would still be appreciated, though! Thank you, MustangWorks! |
ac delete belt length
I did the same but retained my smog because I still have cats. The belt was 84",so here is what ya do takethe legth of the stock belt and subtract the length of the belt you used to just bypass the smog .Then take that length and subtract from 84" and that should be it .Let me know because I plan on deleting my smog when I get a off-road h-pipe.Thanks!

so what size belt did you end up going with? and could you post some pictures or explanation of how it goes on so i dont have to go through the frustrations that you did:D

easy as pie not!
I just removed my smog too and as stated before my a/c has been gone I used a 725k6 belt from autozone.Irouted the belt from the p/s to the w/p and then down to the crank and back up to the alt.I have a 3g alt. so there maybe some difference!I broke the locating pin off the tensioner so I could get it where I wanted it.
