take a string and route it the way the belt will go and then get your measurement from that. should put you within a 1/4 inch of where you need to be.
this is what everyone will tell you.
dont forget to consider the tensioner pulley. that should take any slack out of it but dont measure around it when it is in the fully upright (non tensioned) position!
