Post Best cam, carb, and intake for around town.

I am thinking about one of the cam and intake sets for power from idle to 5500 rpm's. Since most of my driving is around town and i only race people for relativly short didtances. How much power would a good low end setup have? I have heard two barrel carbs are better for low end torque and fuel vaporization, this true? Any special rockers/valve springs i should use? Thanks in advance.

My friends 85 coupe has a nice setup, he had an 850 dp holley that made it run like crap , he went to a 650 dp, and it ran sooooo much better , the car also has a cam, (not sure on specs) but i'd say its around 512-533 lift, a lopey idle, but can still run ac without a problem.

but i know most people would recomend a (vacuum secondaries carb), that way your running 2 bbl around town, also his car has a victor jr. intake, and longtubes, but it will scream to 6000 rpm in a flash

Cool

stealth intake, 600 vac sec holley with a quicker opening spring for the secondaries..
you'll get better mileage with a 4v carb, the primaries are smaller then the ones on a 2v carb.. if you can keep your foot out of it ;-)
another option is the same carb and the edelbrock performer kit,, intake and matching cam..works pretty good

Edelbrock makes a "performer" package that has heads, intake and 600cfm carburetor designed exactly for the rpm range you want. a 4 barrel carburetor is a 2 barrel until you need it, when it flows extra air/fuel when you romp on it (vacuum secondaries and mechanical secondaries open up from either engine vacuum or from the linkage). Usually 2 barrel carburetors are a compramise because they flow more air (usually 350cfm is an averige size i've heard of) at part throttle than a small 4 barrel so there's more fuel consumption (compared to say a 600cfm carburetor) if you're driving normally, and there's no top end to them because of the restricted flow. Also fuel atomization has more to do with swirl and the carburetor venturis (as well as the individual diameter of the venturis) than how many barrels a carburetor has. A grossly oversize carburetor won't idle for sh/t and will bog and have horrible fuel economy, but a nicely set up 600cfm carb would be perfect for what you want. I usually get 16-20mpg with lots of city driving with my 4 barrel so it's not bad. Good luck, hope this helped.
