Unhappy Too Low Exhuast!

Does anyone know how I could fix my exhuast, its too darn low. The car is lowered 1.5" with bbk springs and whenever i go over a speed bump or pull into my driveway the cats, flanges and front pipes all scrape. (you should see all the yellow paint I was thinking of just cutting the hangers by the cats and moving the pipes up then rewelding them but my auto shop teacher doesnt think they will work. It seems to me that the exhuast should be closer to the body. Whoever installed the flowmasters on my car may not have done that great of a job or maybe my car is too low! Pleeeese help!

Thanks, Nick

You could take it off and bend the hangers right below where they already bend and bend the previously bent area straight, that's an idea. You could do that for all the hangers if they're the stock style hangers but it won't be easy.
Good luck,

is it an all flowmaster system??? what do you have on it for an h/x pipe??? you might want to try pulling the exhaust off in shop, iff you can get it on a lift... then start over... out it back up seeing if you can get it tighter to the body... my friend and i had to do that to his, because the flowmasters were too low... it a bunch of work, but if it fixes the problem, without having to cut anything...

Mine hits too. There's not a whole lot you can do about it. It's the h-pipe and the cats that hit on my car, and if you cut the hangers and move it up you'll have to cut them again to take the h-pipe off. And I'm already rubbing the cross-member with the h-pipe anyway.

guys this is what i did. i had the same problem as you.
i cut a bigger notch out of the crossmember and cut off the hanger for the hpipe. rewelded them closer to the pipe making the hangers shorter, and modifing my hpipe bracket that attaches to the tranny. it worked like a charm. you got to readjust the muffs and the tails again. if you dont like the tails haging low (mostly LX models) do this: use the factory rubber hangers and to "pull" the exhaust "closer" to the floor, use hose clamps to draw them up. i had mine on for a year and they havent moved or budged a bit. you cant see it either and it makes less exuast rattle too. it keeps tension on the whole system, yet it can still flex with the engine. trust me this works!! some people like the low hanging LX pipes. me, i tucked those babies up and it. you cant even see the welded tailpipe hanger like the factory has when it came from ford. hope i helped you guys out.

Thanks for all your input. I only have the flowmaster mufflers welded into the stock exhuast system. I have access to a left whenever I want during school so that shouldnt be a problem. It is mostly the right piep between the first cats and the second cats. i am getting JBA headers soon and i was wondering if having to take the old ones out and put the new ones on would help any. I do like the idea of bending the hangers because from what i have seen on other cars the pipes are not that low.

Thanks
