BEST GEARS?!?

ok, i want to dip into the 13s by next summer with the following mods

bbk 1-5/8" equal shortys
2.5" off road h pipe
dynomax 2.5" auper turbo cat back
k&n airfilter(stock airbox, removed air silencer)
GEARS(now i need to know which ones)
and a hurst/b&m shorty shifter.

do you think with good driving, i could get in the 13s with those mods + whatever gears u think would be best???

thanks

oh ya, i plan on adding some type of turbo system, and going 11s someday, and dont want to change gears again, would 373s be the best???

I would say yes to the 3.73's. If you're going to add the turbps, 4.10 may be too much and who wants to swap 'em out twice? Bart from UPR runs 9's flat in the 1/4 (you have seen his car numerous times if you read the stang mags)and he runs 3.55's with his setup. 4.10's would be fun though. Have you run it in it's present state yet?

yes, i ran a 16.272@83.11mph, but that was with a bad bog, a blown, half clutch bad shift to 2nd(quadrant snapped out)

but on friday, i will go & try to improve on that.

Calm down ther bowtie eater sometimes gears dont knock off any time I went from 2.73's to 3.73's and got 2 tenths slower even though my 60 ft improved by a tenth.

"2.73's"

60ft-2.18
1/8th mile-9.63
1/4 mile 15.20 @89 mph

3.73's

60ft-2.11
1/8th mile-9.81
1/4 mile 15.35 @90 mph

I was hoping to break into the 14's after the gear swap but no luck.

Right know I am saving up money for an off road h-pipe, a new radiator, underdrive pulleys
head porting, cobra intake and a b-cam.

I am hoping for a 14.2 to a 13.8 after those mods.

3000ft altitude doesnt help my cause any though.

GOOD LUCK http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

5.0HO, are you taking track conditions and weather into considerations? theres now way you can slow down when you swap from 2.73s to 3.73s unless the weather is about 50* hotter, its alot more humid, you have a full tank of gas, at a different altitude track, and you're towing a chevy pickup
i picked up a half second when i did the same gear swap, granted mine was as AOD at the time
about the topic at hand, i wouldnt be afraid of the 3.73's with the turbos because turbos need rpm's to build boost so the 3.73's will bring it up faster and shouldnt be as bad on traction as say a eaton style blower that builds boost in low rpm's
hope this is of some help

I'd say to stick w/ 3.55's if you're gonna be adding a turbo. With 3.73's or more, you'll definitely be running out of gears at the track and your car'll be SCREAMING during highway driving/racing.

My old Chevelle cruised 60 at about 4000rpm. That's screaming.

3.73's the rpm's are not that bad. I used to hear the same thing until I got my 3.73's no problems at all. If you are supercharging than maybe 3.55's.
