best sounding I've heard is Mac long-tubes, Mac OR h-pipe, MAC catback on a approx 290 HP 5.0
that was mean, and had a crack in its exhaust that a stocker 5.0 just can't match... MAC mufflers are supposed to be the meanest sounding out of a poll of all my stang buddies.. |

it depends...
It all depends on what you consider a good sounding exhaust. Is loud better or is just deep rumble? What about those of us who like it to be a little more on the quiet side for a sleeper?
For a loud (not rediculous) deep rumble kind of exhaust, I like the Full MAC kit Long tubes, PRO Chamber, and thier flowpath mufflers. But MAC has quality problems and getting one to fit the first time isn't always easy. For something more quiet maybe shorties an X-Pipe and Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. Again its all in what you like. Steve |

It sounded pretty bad *** when I fired my car up in the garage, jacked up with all 4 tires off the ground and no exhaust save for the headers. Hehe. Had to make sure my tranny was working.

IMHO, nothing sounds better than an O/R h-pipe and 2 ch flowmasters on a 5.0 mustang.

I have Flowmaster A/T on my 94 GT, it sounds good but with the 4 Cat H-Pipe its not that loud.
I have found that the Cats make the biggest sound diff out of the whole exhaust system. On my '83 I started it up with just the MAC PRO Chamber, man that was sweet. It almost sounded like a big block. But in my friends '89 when we started it with the 4 Cat pipe and the 2 Cat pipe it just didn't have the deep grunt the O/R Pipe (PRO Chamber) did. Steve |

I loved my set-up. 3 chamber flows, with BBK O/R h-pipe. It sounded just right.

i have to vote for the offroad h pipe and the two chamber flowmasters. mine also has 3" tips that are about 16" long. just for that lil ricer that pulls up next to me and wants some.

I have full length MAC Headers, a MAC pro-chamber off road h-pipe, and 2 chamber Flowmasters. It sounds nasty...I highly recommend this setup to anyone.

Its really all about opinion. Personally I despise Dynomax...at least in side exhaust form. I have 2 chamber flows, and can't wait to throw them in the garbage. Even with my cam, every time I hear a Mustang roll by, I think its mine
I really like the flowpath catback, and Borlas too..pretty quiet at idle and nice and throaty in the higher rpms. On a modular I really like an offroad H pipe with 3 chamber flows. |

I have 1 5/8 BBk equal length headers, Custom off-road X-pipe, 2 chamber flowmasters.
My car isnt that loud till I get on it then you can hear the flowmasters working.....I like it.

Xhausting
Definately a MAC full 3" exhaust from the 1 3/4 longtubes all the way to the 3" chrome tips. Of course thats behind a blown and stroked 347 sitting outside. Sounds good and not to loud untill its time to stomp on somebody then comes the screaming of a FORD. Later....

Personally I have 2 mustangs at my house the 72 mach 1 has dynomax super turbos and they sound good on the cleveland but are a little bit on the quiet side. On my 82 5.0L I have flowtech shorty headers, 2.5"dual exhaust with NO x or h pipe and the dynomas superturbos and they sound amazing. they arent so loud that they are deafining but they turn peoples heads. But i would personally like to try out a set of ultraflows but until then i love my super turbos.

I'll definatly agree with the off raod h- pipe and 2 chamber Flowmasters. The throatiest and baddest combo you'll ever find.
