Well...actually, I have read several articles in mm&ff and 5.0 mustang, as well as have talked to Tom, head of D.S.S. racing. They all say the 347 has oil problems, premature wear, etc. However, all articles that I have read say that the 331 stroker is a good engine that you can put high miles on. I talked to Tom @ DSS before I ordered my 331, which is being built now, and he said that the 331 and the 306 use the same ring package, so you don't really have to worry about premature wear and b/c of that and the fact that it uses a shorter rod ratio than a 347, you can put high miles on it and it will be a dependable motor for a daily driver. just passing on info....josh

I also read all the tests in mmff and 5.0 and it all sounds like a big sale pitch to me. Think about it... If you want to make a load of cash you have to come out with something new (331) and convince people that it is better then the others (347). I admit it all sounds good and I am sure the 331 is a great motor, but I just don't buy it.
Before the 331 came out were the oil control issues and short life span of the 347 a problem, or did they just start after the birth of the 331? Did these shops tell people about the so called problems? Why is it that GM can make motors for years that last for 200,000 miles with the same issues as the 347 but not have any problems?
I am not saying that I know more then all the big name shops. But I do know that all the talk about bad rod ratios and oil control issues that are being told started by the makers of the 331.
