Post Torque Box ?'s

I am gonna be running stock rear suspension components for awhile due to lack of funds but was wondering if it would be beneficial to go ahead and upgrade the torqe boxes. I figured since I was already onna have the rearend out to go ahead and do now. I plan on using Mega bite upper and lowers with a set of drag springs and air bag kit later. Also my bestest buddy that is helping me out on the car is a professional welder, he is plenty capable but would be stupid to BUILD my own torque boxes and plates.

I like the wild rides Battle boxes but could save a few bucks and build them myself? What should I do?

'93 lx notch 4 banger (drive it to work currently), Using the 306, 8.8 posi, 4.10's, summit rear cover, elec. fan, cowl hood, wieand stealth intake, holley 650 d.p.carb., built c-4, e-303, full autometer guages, msd box, mallory unilite dist, and coil, roll cage, summit seat, subs, 15x10's in the back with slicks, skinnies up front, all in use for 1988 Hatch Drag Car. Hope to start running next year. Hoping for 7.20's after all is done with small motor.

I would try to build them your self. I run a sheet metal shop. So I build every thing I can. The battle boxes look very simple. When you put them in try not to hack the lower boxes like they did in MM-FF. Good luck with you project.

Thanks Ed. Speaking of hacking did yopu see the article in 5.0 Ford this month. I read it and studied the pictures closely and I think we can build them. I will talk to my buddy and let him look at teh car and photots in the mag and see what he thinks. Thanks man

I am not sure what you run on the track, but I would wait on the boxes.

My friend (mufflerboy) runs 12.8 on slicks and we thought for sure that his boxes would be gone. We put it up on the lift to weld them and they were perfect!

Now! He DOES have subfram connectors and aftermarket arms.

If you have the rear-end out, and do not mind taking out the interior sure go for it

By all means, install torque box reinforcements. If you are using the mega bites, i would say it's a must. If i'm not mistaken they don't have any bushings. I was running southsides and now my boxes are totally destroyed. I am getting the boxes re-welded and straightend out, as well as the reinforcements. It is going to cost me almost 600.00, instead of the 100.00 kit and having it welded in.

I think I am gonna go ahead and do it when I swap rearends. I will be using the stock suspension but I might as well do it know while I have the rear end out. I am also going tyo go ahead with the sud frames. The rest of the rear suspension will have to wait though.

Question

well i have subs already welded in as well as i made some plates to box in the lower torque boxes....i did weld around where the upper control arms bolt too...but the metal is so thin there it seemed useless.
I have some good ideas as what to add on the bottm ones but can anyone share what they did for the upper ones?? They seem to be the weakest looking.

Thanks
